Delap added: “I wanted to come here to win trophies. When I spoke with the club, everyone wanted to go back to the top, and they have the quality and the players to do that. The hunger and desire to add trophies to bring the club back to where it belongs, that is the main goal.”
Chelsea -Baas Enzo Maresca had made it clear that he wanted to add more firepower to his front line. Nicolas Jackson is familiar to lead their attack, but beyond him there is not the quality and the manager does not seem to rely on Christopher Nunku.
Maresca said that he was determined to introduce someone who can compete Jackson and Delap is ready to do that exactly. The efforts of the new signing, despite the relegation of Ipswich, is what marked him as a quality operator and his release clause became live when the tractor boys invaded the championship, making it particularly accessible.
Those in Manchester will have to focus their attention somewhere else. They have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves for just over £ 60 million and Ruben Amorim will have to consider other options on his shortlist while he wants to strengthen the United Forward line.
