The LFP take up the Mbappé case: PSG could be hit with a transfer ban

The LFP disciplinary committee will investigate the dispute between the two parties over the unpaid 55 million euros.

Paris Saint-Germain could be subject to a sanction by the disciplinary committee of the Ligue de Football Professional (LFP) on December 11, the day on which the club's legal representatives were summoned to a confrontation with Kylian Mbappé's lawyers, as part of the lawsuit over the 55 million euros that the player claims in unpaid bonuses and wages.

Although the body does not have the power to order the club to settle its debts to the player, it could impose sanctions such as a signing ban, points deduction or a fine – if it rules in favor of the Real Madrid forward.

FFF rejects PSG's appeal

This week, Mbappe referred the case to the LFP disciplinary committee after the French Football Federation (FFF) refused to investigate an appeal filed by Paris Saint-Germain to prevent him from paying the 55 million euros he claims. The case will be analyzed on December 11, where the legal representatives of the player and those of Paris Saint-Germain must present their respective accusations. Reconciliation is completely out of the question, because there is no return to the relationship.

In September, Mbappé took the case to the French league. On two occasions the LFP ruled in his favor and ordered PSG to pay him the amounts claimed. However, the Paris club claimed that the Legal Committee and the Appeals Committee had legal loopholes, so it belatedly filed an appeal with the FFF, which refused to rule on the matter, considering that the document was beyond the deadline of a week had been submitted.

Mbappé's verbal pact

Kylian Mbappé and his lawyers argue that Paris Saint-Germain must pay him the 55 million euros he is owed under labor law. Since the end of last season, the player no longer receives wages and bonuses to which he is entitled. After informing the club twice, he decided to go to the French league to make them decide in his favor. The two rulings, in September and October, in his favor by the two committees, suggest that the disciplinary committee will agree to the same ruling on December 11.

PSG, for its part, does not intend to pay him the 55 million euros, because the player verbally agreed to waive those amounts during a backstage meeting with Al Khelaïfi in August 2023.

The club recalls Mbappé's words in January, after winning the Super Cup, in which he declared that “whatever happens in June, my agreement with the president means that all parties are protected.” Because this commitment has not been recorded in writing, proving them right will be a complicated task for the capital club, which froze Mbappé's 55 million euros by adhering to that gentlemen's agreement.

The disciplinary committee could therefore impose a sanction, but everything indicates that if the club rules in favor of the Real Madrid star, it will appeal again and take the matter to court.
