Real Madrid as a whole is used to being whistled for, and players like Vinicius Junior are a regular target for Athletic Club fans, just as Kylian Mbappe saw more noise on Wednesday night at San Mames, their biggest stars. However, defender Raul Asencio was the surprise target of most of the whistles in Bilbao during Athletic's 2-1 win over Real Madrid on Wednesday evening.
Asencio, 21, has made just four appearances in La Liga and has done little on the pitch to anger opposition fans. However, MD says the reason for his whistle goes back to last summer, when it was revealed that police had opened an investigation into five Real Madrid academy players for the alleged distribution of child pornography.
The Castilla centre-back was on holiday with other academy members and was not part of the trio who allegedly took part in and recorded the incident, but is still suspected of distributing the video of it. Real Madrid have refused to comment publicly on the matter, while three of the five players under investigation have now left the club.
