Jorge Masvidal explains why Conor McGregor fight will never happen despite his ‘love’ for UFC super fight

Conor McGregor tops Jorge Masvidal's charts.

'Gamebred' retired in 2023 after four straight losses, but after a pair of boxing fights, including a majority decision loss to Nate Diaz, he will return to MMA next year.

The former BMF champion claims he will make his UFC comeback at a show in Miami in April.

However, nothing is official as he is still looking for a big name opponent.

Jorge Masvidal: Conor McGregor will never fight again

In an ideal world, Conor McGregor would be Jorge Masvidal's comeback opponent.

The former two-weight UFC champion hasn't fought since breaking his leg in a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

Despite being fully fit, McGregor's long-awaited return to the UFC has been hit by repeated delays, with Dana White claiming he won't fight until late 2025.

Masvidal doesn't want to end up like Michael Chandler, who spent two years on the sidelines waiting for his 'Red Panty Night' with MMA's biggest star to appear.

'Street Jesus' would love to fight McGregor, but he has come to the conclusion that won't happen because the Irishman will never compete again.

“I would love it, but I'm not waiting for him,” Masvidal said of McGregor during an interview with Sportsbook Review.

“I respect what Chandler did, he did the Ultimate Fighter with him, he protected his bag, but I'm not going to do that. I don't sit for anyone.

“Let that guy live his damn life, but he don't fight. I don't see it in him. I see it in his eyes, he is no longer about the fighting life. I don't see him fighting anymore, not with his current lifestyle.”

Jorge Masvidal hopes to settle Leon Edwards' beef

With McGregor out of the picture, Masvidal has set his sights on a grudge match with Leon Edwards.

The two men have been feuding for years after a backstage incident at UFC London in March 2019.

Masvidal famously punched Edwards before mocking his rival by claiming he hit him with a “three piece and the soda.”

Five years later, they still haven't fought in the Octagon. Edwards became a 170-pound champion before losing his title to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 in July.

Masvidal insists that now is the time for them to finally get to work with UFC gloves on.

He added: “Leon Edwards is the fight I want, I just want the chance to fight him. Leon is the number one I target.

“I've never been one to chase number 30. I've always chosen to fight the best guy, which probably hasn't been the best approach, but damn, I love fighting.

“Me and Leon have a little bit of history. He's a great competitor, but I know I have his number. I know he can't impose his wrestling on me, he's not much of a wrestler. His stroke is good, but I'm better, I'm more durable.

“I know I can screw this guy up. All he has to say is, “I want to fight that son of a bitch,” and it happens. I'm one of the top pay-per-view draws. I'm in the top three pay-per-view draws. Do you want to earn this money or not?
