Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Nemanja Matic and Le Havre Striker Ahmed Hassan are each received two-game Bans with two more games that were hung after they had hidden the anti-gorophobia insignia from Ligue 1 on their shirts, the French TopFlight said.
Serbian Matic, 36, had set up a tape on the anti-gay badge when he came up during Lyon's 2-0 home victory on Angers on May 17, the last day of the Ligue 1 season. His Lyon contract will end at the end of the month.
Egyptian Hassan, 32, also received the same punishment, with the incident taking place during the 3-2 victory of Le Havre in Strasbourg.
“Moreover, the committee introduced the player – who immediately accepted during the meeting – that he participated in a campaign within six months to increase the consciousness of the fight against homophobia in football …” Ligue 1 said on Thursday in a statement.
Ligue 1 had planned for players to wear rainbow -colored symbols on shirts or bracelets and to display messages in stadiums as part of the annual Awareness Drive.
Nevertheless, participation has been wrong in recent years, with some players quoting personal or religious reasons to unsubscribe.
