Chiesa speaks out on Liverpool future after being ‘catapulted to another planet’

Liverpool Vooruit Federico Chiesa has hinted that he could stay in Anfield this summer despite a frustrating first season with the Reds, and opened his relationship with Arne Slot

Despite a challenging first season with Liverpool, Federico Chiesa remains open to continue his stint at Anfield. The Italian winger made only 14 performances during his Maiden Reds campaign, with 10 of those of the bank.

Although Chiesa took a Premier League winner's medal, he had a limited time on the field, with his only start in a largely ceremonial game in Brighton and Hove Albion with the title in the bag.

The 27-year-old is constantly linked to a move back to the Serie A, and Chiesa hinted earlier this week that an Italian home can be an option in the coming transfer window.

In a new interview, however, the Italian has expressed satisfaction with the prospect of staying on Merseyside, which positively thinks about his decision to move to Liverpool.

“The year is over. But it is an experience that I would do again,” Chiesa told Corriere Dello Sport, via the Liverpool Echo.

“Soon I will sit down with the club, (my agent) Fali (Ramadani) and my family to find the best solution. I would not mind staying in Liverpool.”

The Italian was transferred from Juventus to Liverpool last August for a first fee of £ 10 million after he was pushed aside by the Italian heavyweights. Although his obstacles came to Liverpool, including injuries and fitness misery during the early season, Chiesa seems ready to discuss his future with optimism.

The Italian star openly expressed his frustration about not getting enough playing time, but was quick to prevent him from criticizing Arne Slot for his selection decisions, and acknowledged that a player must accept such scenarios as part of the profession.

“You accept the choices as a professional and you continue,” he said, thoughtful about his challenging adjustment period after being at Liverpool. “In the first few months there were many difficulties.”

Admitted to the Stark transition, he added: “If you think I arrived in Liverpool on 26 August and catapulted myself to another planet, with other teammates, without having trained with them, but with a trainer, no friendly competitions, nothing.

“And, if you remember, Liverpool went three times as fast in the fall as the others, an incredible intensity.

“Until the match against PSG, Liverpool was ahead of everyone, in the semi -final of Carabao and among the favorites in the Champions League, who won PSG. Can I start discussing the choices of Slot that has always been very respectful for me, as well as the club?

“(I was against) the balloon d'Or, or one of the candidates for the prize (in Mohamed Salah).” (On the left) there were Luis Diaz and (Cody) Gakpo. Slot also made me play like a nine. It was Max (Allegri) who changed my position and suggested that I moved to a second striker to score more, and I scored my goals.

“The desire to play was there, I put it aside, I understood the situation. I set aside any form of individualism.”
