Ange Postecoglou was fired by Tottenham only 16 days after the end of their 17-year-old trophy-dry-with Thomas Frank the leader to take over.
Spurs -chairman Daniel Levy called based on the gloomy Premier League campaign where a record 22 defeats saw the club 17th ending.
Postecoglou has been extracted for two years on the day of the day since he was announced as Spurs Chief in 2023 – and just over fourteen days after winning the Europa League in Bilbao.
The North Londers are expected to make a decision about the successor to the Aussie next week and although there is no contact with Brentford yet, their boss Frank is the favorite for the role.
Spurs said that the decision to postecoglou in Ax was one of the 'most difficult' to make the board in a statement that did not contain a comment from Levy.
The statement was: “We are very grateful for his efforts and contribution during his two years at the club.
“Ange will always be reminded as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, in addition to legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.
“However, the board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interest of the club for the change.
“After a positive start in the Premier League season 2023/24, we recorded 78 points of the last 66 PL matches.
“This culminated in our worst Premier League finish last season. Sometimes there were mitigating circumstances – injuries and then a decision to give priority to our European campaign.
“While winning the Europa League is one of the biggest moments of the club this season, we cannot base our decision on emotions tailored to this triumph.
“It is crucial that we can compete on several fronts and believe that a change in approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and afterwards.
“This is one of the most difficult decisions we have had to make and is not a decision that we have made light, nor a decision that we have rushed to conclude.
“We have taken what we believe is the right decision to give us the best chance of success in the future, not the easy decision.”
The explanation went the best for the future by Postcoglou and that he will always be welcome in N17.
It also claimed that an appointment of a new head coach will be announced “in due course”.
Frank, who performed wonders in Brentford, is in the box chair, although Marco Silva is also in the frame.
There was interest in Simone Inzaghi before he came to Al-Hilal, as well as FA Cup winner Oliver Glasner, who said he is “99 percent”, for sure that he is staying at Crystal Palace.
Spurs has been talking to managers for some time, with Fabio Paratic – to return in a certain capacity when his 30 -month prohibition on malpractice at Juventus ends at the end of this month – understood as an influence.
The dismissing of Postecoglou and the hiring of Frank could prove a precious company, with the reimbursement of the first in the millions and the release clause of the latter that it is believed to be around £ 10 million.
Postecoglou also runs away with £ 2 million in a bonus for landing from the Europa League – the first trophy of the club since the League Cup in 2008.
He is the 13th permanent manager who is fired by Levy during his 25-year-old government responsible for Spurs, in which the club has only won two trophies.
Postecoglou said in a statement: “When I think about my time as a manager of Tottenham Hotspur, my compelling emotion is one of pride.
“The possibility of leading one of the historic football clubs in England and to bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime.
“Who share that experience with all those who really love this club and the impact it had on them is something that I will never forget.
“That night in Bilbao was the highlight of two years of hard work, dedication and relying faith in a dream.
“There were many challenges to overcome and a lot of noise that is accompanied by trying to achieve what many said was not possible.
“We also laid foundations that meant that this club would not have to wait 17 years for their next success.
“I have enormous faith in this group of players and I know that there is much more potential and growth in it.”
