The 22-year-old Slovenian attacker has been on the Gunners wish list since last summer.
Sesko scored 21 goals and noted six assists in all competitions last season.
And the new sports director Andrea Berta would like to get a deal over the line for a “big” summer.
Arsenal opened official conversations with Leipzig on Friday, according to Sky Sports.
The two clubs have contact, but no formal offer has been made yet.
Sesko is currently giving a knock and did not play for Slovenia against Luxembourg last night.
The injury to his knee is not considered serious.
De Spiegel claims that Leipzig contacted the Slovenian FA prior to the international break.
The club asked Sesko to sit out both Slovenia's limbs in an attempt to prevent injury.
He traveled with the team on Tuesday prior to a match with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
But Sesko did not train the game for the game in cell.
Arsenal remains interested in Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres while Mikel Arteta wants to revise his attack.
