Marc-Andre ter Stegen is confronted with an uncertain future in Barcelona, with the La Liga champions open to sell it this summer. The approaching arrival of Joan Garcia would be the 33-year-old to the third relegation in the goalkeeper Pecking Order, although he is still determined to stay in the club, where he was contracted for three more seasons.
Ter Stegen had been the undisputed starter in Barcelona for many years, but with his performance levels that fell, the decision was made for him to drop the pecking order. But according to sport this is not the only reason.
The report has shown that Barcelona has not been satisfied with Ter Stegen in recent weeks. They were not impressed by his reaction that he would not be added again to the Champions League team of the club prior to the semi-final draw against Inter.
Ter Stegen informed Hansi Flick, Deco and the rest of the sports department that he was ready to return to the starting line-up for the Semi-Final Showdown of the Champions League, and he also made this clear in the public domain. And when he was informed that Wojciech Szczesny would stay in his place in the team, the German international did not respond well – and he did not even threaten to travel to Milan.
His actions were not well received by Barcelona, and especially by Flick, whose relationship with Ter Stegen is considered very rocky. The couple was not on the best conditions anyway because of their previous run-in when the 60-year-old was in charge of Germany, where he chose Manuel Neuer as his starting goalkeeper.
Nevertheless, Barcelona says that the primary reason for the fall of Ter Stegen is a sporty one. He will be allowed to stay if that is his wish, but he will not start with a scream of playing matches unless Garcia or Szczesny absorbs an injury.
