Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has taken the lead over a team since the Bernabeu has left in 2021, but is often linked to high-profile jobs such as Manchester United and Chelsea
Zinedine Zidane has rejected Blanco Checks to join Manchester United and Chelsea as a manager, according to his former teammate of France Marcel Desailly. Zidane has only managed Real Madrid at the first team level, but often remains linked to some of the world's top jobs.
The World Cup winning midfielder of 1998 won three Champions League titles in a row in his first spell with Los Blancos and won two La Liga titles over his two stints in the Bernabeu-Hoteseat. Zidane resigned from his position in 2021 after he had not won a trophy – the first time Real Madrid had not done this in more than a decade – and no longer managed it since then.
And Desailly has suggested that Zidane has rejected lucrative proposals to return to football. Maintaining his current lifestyle and travel remains important for the 52-year-old.
Former Chelsea defender Desailly, however, believes that Zidane will be the person to take over Didier Deschamps for the French national team. However, a switch to the Saudi Pro League does not seem likely to be in the spirit of the ex-blues captain.
“Will Zinedine Zidane be seduced by Saudi Aarabia? Well, he had a blank check on Chelsea's table and a blank check from Manchester United and has rejected them – he is not in it for the money,” said Oddspedia.
“I don't see why money will change something, I know privately that he will not change his lifestyle. He likes traveling and always keeps an eye on the national team of France.
“He is ready because Didier Deschamps has started the transition. France will be one of the favorites for the World Cup and wins or loses that it is not the end of this era for France.
“France has been growing and grows since 2016. New players have been constantly entering the team and now they have the right players. Rayan Cherki is one of them next to Ousmane Dembele, Kylian Mbappe is still there and on top of his game.
“There is a real dynamic. William Saliba is in defense with Ibrahima Konate, Bayern has Dayot Upamecano.
With Zidane from image, Desailly believes that Manchester United should look at Luis Enrique to turn their fortune. And despite the success of the Champions League, he would not be surprised to see Enrique leave Paris Saint-Germain.
“Football moves quickly and says that next season he makes too many mistakes, he might be able to come into conflict with players such as Bradley Barcola and Doue desire as they grow and have a bigger word about the system,” he said. “Soon they will be able to say no to the coach and his influence and because everything can happen, he can end up in the Premier League.
“We are talking about something that did not happen 20 years ago, but tactical coaching is now in the Premier League thanks to Claudio Ranieri and Jose Mourinho and so many other coaches. The Premier League has grown.
“Luis Enrique would bring a new dynamic and if I was at Manchester United, I would ask Luis Enrqiue to come to my club. They have tried all kinds of coaches and now all eyes are enrique because he can build a philosophy completely. Manchester United needs Luis Enrique.”
