UFC Atlanta star’s ‘crazy decision’ to throw down with hard-hitting opponent backfired in wild knockout

Joe Rogan remained stunned by the decision that a former champion had to compete at UFC Atlanta made in a brutal loss of 2019.

Rogan has been responsible for many memorable reactions from the commentary team. One of the best came as a result of the title-winning knockout of Rose Namajunas against Zhang Weili, the victory of Amanda Nunes over Cris Cyborg and the incredible finish of Beneil Dariush versus Drrakkar Klose.

But not many fights have received the podcaster and stand-up comedian as one of the attacks that fell on the UFC 235 Pay-per-View card six years ago.

During a night for Ben Askren's UFC debut against Robbie Lawler and title win for Kamaru Usman and Jon Jones, it was a few Bantam weights that took care of the wildest moment.

Joe Rogan doubted the 'crazy decision' of Cody Garbrandt to act with Pedro Munhoz

Opening the UFC 235 -head card was an exciting Bantamweight Matchup between former champion Cody Garbrandt and multi -year competition Pedro Munhoz.

'No Love' came from the first two defeats of his career against TJ Dillashaw and wanted to bounce back. Sometimes the American looked like he would do exactly that.

But after he seemed to hurt Munhoz, Garbrandt's decision is to throw the sink at the Brazilian Bacid.

In the last minute of the round, the pair started to exchange ruthless bombs. Eventually it was Munhoz who came out of the crazy back and forth after the flattening of Garbrandt in the last seconds.

On comment, Rogan expressed his shock about Garbrandt's decision to get wild.

“Oh my God. Oh my God,” said Rogan, while Munhoz finished Garbrandt. “What a crazy decision by Cody Garbrandt. What a crazy decision.

“The decision that Cody has made to stand and bump, and to telegrade them and act with him, it's so crazy,” Rogan added. “I think he thought he had won the fight. But man, Pedro Munhoz has an iron chin.

“Such a crazy decision to make.”

Cody Garbrandt's UFC Run since losing Pedro Munhoz

Garbrandt has difficulty getting his best shape consistently, because the defeat against Munhoz sent him to a threefold losing skid.

Although he initially recovered with one of the best knockouts of 2020 against Raphael Assuncao, 'No Love' lost his next two against Rob Font and Kai Kara-France, with the latter Garbrandt's plans to make a flight at fly weight.

Victories at Lesser Competition in Trevin Jones and Brian Kelleher followed, but against former UFC flight weight champion and ranked Bantamweight Contender Diveson Figueiredo on UFC 300, Garbrandt was submitted.

It is 14 months since Garbrandt's last outing, because Vertigo attacks held him on the sidelines after the loss against Figueiredo.

He is finally ready to return to the UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Atlanta, where he is confronted with a fellow veteran of the 135-pound division in Raoni Barcelos.
