The first transfer window of the summer may be closed, with Premier League clubs that have spent nearly half a billion pounds on new signing sessions – but there is so much more things to do when it is opened again on Monday.
Few managed to expect something from the special window that brought in before the World Cup World Cup – but it delivered 10 days of transfer drama and has now set the tone for what promises to be a fascinating summer.
Manchester City was the big spenders after they had done their business early by bringing in Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait Nouri and Marcus Bettinelli – to take their expenses to £ 116.2m.
Although three signing sessions from City were announced on Deadline Day, it was Chelsea, the other Premier League team at the Club World Cup, which was again central when they chased potential late deals for Jamie Gittens and Mike Maignan.
Chelsea ended their pursuit of Maignan, the AC Milan goalkeeper, around lunch on the deadline day because the Italian club was not willing to lower their demands for the 29-year-old, who no longer has a contract within a year and is not appreciated by the blues.
Their chase for Gittens had more legs but also ended in disappointment – at least for the time being. Dortmund rejected the £ 42 million from Chelsea and demanded closer to £ 55 million late in the day and the time rose for the clubs to reach an agreement.

Chelsea sign a striker – but Arsenal is still looking for one
In the meantime, Chelsea strengthened their front line prior to the club World Cup with the £ 30 million arrival of Liam Delap from Ipswich.
