Chelsea is planning a big summer of transfers while they want to build on the qualification for the Champions League and a new winger is a big priority – especially after they have achieved the chance to permanently sign Jadon Sancho
Chelsea -Baas Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the club wants to sign a new winger after he has paid £ 5 million to send Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United after his failed loan saying.
Sancho struggled for consistency during the 2024-25 campaign on Stamford Bridge and was criticized by fans and experts about his mixed displays.
He scored a total of five goals – the last one came in their UEFA Conference League -final victory over Real Betis – and registered four assists, but his efforts were not enough to impress Chelsea.
Sancho is now confronted with an uncertain future with Manchester United -Baas Ruben Amorim who does not intend to include him in his team for next season.
And while Chelsea has spent money to withdraw a permanent deal for Sancho – which would have cost them £ 25 million – Maresca still needs more coverage on the flanks for Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto and Tyrique George in Rival.
Speaking for Chelsea's Club World Cup -opener to Lafc this week he said: “Jadon is not with us, so that is certainly a position that we probably have to do something.
“Also, because as you already know, Misha is not with us. So at the moment we have Noni, Pedro and Ty as the right wing players.
“So certainly, something is going to happen. We often said, when the transfer window is open, everything can happen – to bring players or sell players. We will see.”
Chelsea has already closed a deal for Ipswich Forward Liam Delap, who already arrived around £ 30 million, and the club has tried to close a deal for Borussia Dortmund -Vleugel player Jamie Gittens.
The blues, however, saw an £ 42 million bid for the player who was rejected by Dortmund last week in a big blow because they hoped him to the United States for the club World Cup on time.
It is unclear whether Chelsea goes back with a different bid for Gittens, who fell out of favor among the new boss Niko Kovac – starting with only nine games since he took over the beginning of February.
Chelsea has also failed to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. They offer £ 15 million, but the Italian side wanted £ 21 million.
In his goalkeeper situation, Maresca said: “The custodian situation is simple, Robert is number 1, Filip is number 2 and we will analyze and assess Penders. Maignan and various players at other clubs – I don't think it's worth talking about them.”
