Cambiaso ‘never asked’ to leave Juve amid Milan and Man City links

Andrea Cambiasso insists that he “never asked” to leave Juventus in the midst of a growing speculation of a move to AC Milan or Manchester City.

Versatile Juve defender Cambiaso will remain under contract in Turin until 2029, although reports in recent weeks have linked him from the Allianz Stadium.

The 25-year-old played an important role last season in the side of Igor Tudor, who appeared 42 times in all games, with two goals and four assists.

And Cambiaso says that his full focus will stay with Juventus for the coming campaign, despite suggestions that Man City could again ignite their interest after they have been linked to a January relocation.

“I didn't receive a phone call, perhaps my agents,” said Cambiasso when he was asked about his future by Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The only thing in life is death, but I am happy here. I have not spoken with Tudor, but I know that the club and the coach are keeping me to a large extent.

“I feel everyone's confidence. I am happy in Turin and I never asked to leave.”

That admission can be music in the ears of Tudor, who hope that Cambiasso is again an integral figure for the 2025-26 season.

Only Manuel Locatelli (78) made more tackles than Cambiasos 38 under the last campaign of Juve Players, while only Khephren Thuram, Dusan Vlahovic (both five) and Kenan Yildiz (six) offered more assists.

Their efforts helped to recover Juve to finish fourth in the Serie A, with Tudor rewarded by a new contract extension until 2027.

“When the coach arrived, the goal was to qualify for the Champions League, so it earned completely to be confirmed. He made a big impression on us,” Cambiasso added.

“He helped us with a difficult moment when there was no time for experiments. We just had to achieve our goal, so he focused a lot on the mental aspect and did an excellent job.

“Now things will be different. We have a preseason with him and will be able to work more on tactics. We have already had a taste of it. We are all very happy to continue with him.”

Juve are the next in action when they meet in their Clubworld Cup-Opener on Thursday, although Cambiaso is not sure what to expect.

“We don't even know ourselves because it's the first time,” he added.

“It will be a surprise, but just being here for the first time is great. We are all absolutely tired, but playing is our job, and it's a wonderful thing.”
