Lage interested in Joao Felix return to Benfica for the right price

Benfica -head coach Bruno Lage wants to close a deal to bring Joao Felix back to the club, although he recognized the financial challenges when signing the Chelsea Forward.

Joao Felix left the Primeira League side in 2019 to become a member of Atletico Madrid in a movement worth € 126m.

But after he had not cemented his place in the Diego Simeone team, Joao Felix was lent to Chelsea, before he then came to Barcelona for the 2023-24 campaign.

The Portugal attacker then moved to Chelsea last year, but had trouble making an impact and loaned the back of the season at AC Milan.

His time in Chelsea seems to be over, with Enzo Maresca who left the 25-year-old from his club World Cup team and hands his number 14 shirt to a new signature Dario Essugo.

This has shown interest from Benfica, whose boss Low expressed his wish to bring Joao Felix back to his boys' club.

“Joao has already spoken about this situation, all players would like to return to Benfica,” Lage told reporters. “We have to create the chance and they have to show that they want to come to Benfica.

“We have to bring these two desires together. The financial aspect is very important. Joao left for € 120 million years ago, and now there are costs, whether it is a loan or a percentage of the transfer costs.

“On the other hand, there is the salary of the player. There is a lot of desire, but there is also the financial aspect; it is on both sides.”

Last season he only started three games for Chelsea before his loan to Milan, where he just found it only twice in 15 performances.

That is in stark contrast to the last campaign by Joao Felix in Benfica, when he scored 15 times, together with seven assists, in 26 outings during the 2018-19 season.
