Berrada is shocked by struggles under Amorim – but insists ‘hardest part is end’

The CEO of Manchester United, Omar Bercrada, had admitted that he 'underestimated' how bad things could be at Old Trafford after the worst Premier League campaign ever.

The Red Devils ended in the Premier League last month after replacing Erik ten Hag by Ruben Amorim halfway through the season.

Amorim's appointment did not bring a change in fortunes after the difficult start of United of the season led to the looting of ten hag. Berrada admits that he was shocked about how bad things went in the second half of the season, but it is determined that the decision to bring in Amorim will pay next season.

“We managed to bring in Ruben in the middle season that it would be even more difficult for the team to perform,” Berrada told United that we are standing.

'We saw it as an investment for the following seasons, because we would give Ruben the time to get to know the team, the club, the Premier League.

“We have a very clear route map. If Ruben had started on July 1, 2025, we couldn't have had all that knowledge, right? And that is what I feel about these seven or eight months he has had in the Premier League and what he suffered in the Premier League. And the team suffered. It is really going to help us in the future.

“I couldn't have said that we would end 15th. That was never the goal. I think we probably have underestimated the time that the team should require to adapt to the system. But we don't regret the decision because I am convinced that we will see this next season. '

The struggles of United on the field have merged with a difficult period for its club.

After the partial takeover of Sir Jim Ratcliffe last year, United is now going through their second round of dismissals, with no fewer than 200 employees who lose their jobs.

Berrada admits that some difficult decisions have to be made, but is convinced that the club will be stronger the other side once the redundancy process is completed.

“The most difficult decisions have already been made. The most difficult part of the transformation is behind us or will be behind us after the summer.

“We are still going through the end of the second redundancy, which in turn is very difficult to let go of people who have worked here for many years.”

United finished 42 points behind Champions Liverpool last season and never looked further away from winning the Premier League.

But Berrada believes that they can quickly go back to the top and has established a target date to win a 14th Premier League title in 2028, which will also be United's 150 -year anniversary.

“Project 150 is a very simple idea,” Barkrada revealed. 'We are going to celebrate our 150th birthday in June 2028, an important milestone in the history of the club. It is a way to set a time -bound period in which we will focus our efforts to achieve certain goals: winning the Premier League, making the women's team the first WSL and one of the commercially innovative clubs in the world, as we have been in the past, are cash.

'We are a bit distracted by all the problems around the first team of the men, but we are dedicated to make the ladies team very successful. You have heard Jim say, if you wear the united shirt, you have to win, and that is exactly how I feel. A club of our scale has a responsibility to grow football in general and to contribute to women's football.

'In general, it has been set a series of goals within a period of time, so that we can concentrate our efforts and energy on that purpose. And if you ask me today, can the team win the Premier League title by 2028? Naturally. We have just finished the 15th and it seems like an impossible task. But why would you not strive for it? Why not do everything in our power? There have been other turnarounds and other large teams have had bad seasons and the Premier League of La Liga won.

Berrada arrived in Barcelona in 2004 during a low point in the recent history history, but they turned things around to win the Champions League two years later.

He believes that a similar revival is possible at United if they can get things right in the transfer market after they have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves this summer.

“I am firmly convinced that we can do it (win the Premier League in 2028),” Berrada added. 'We have two or three summer windows to build a team to start competing to win the Premier League and if we can reach it earlier, we are all happy and so nobody say that we do not want to win.

'The only thing we say is that we set ourselves a target with a specific time frame to strive for it, because if you just said oh, we want to win the Premier League … great, but by when? So in this way, again, from ownership to management, to everyone in the club, we have a target, we have a mission and that is what we want to achieve. '
