A referee from a club world cup pulled a strange item out of his pocket when he showed a red card during the draw of Boca Juniors with Benfica.
The Argentinian outfit and the Portuguese giants played the most exciting game of the tournament so far in the Hard Rock Stadium.
Boca raced in a 2-0 lead by Miguel Mentialial and Rodrigo Battaglia.
Benfica fought back to draw the game after goals of Angel di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi.
However, it was the poor discipline that was shown that contributed to the excitement of the collision.
Former Manchester United Star other Herrera was shown a red card even though he was immersed, while Andrea Belotti was fired for Benfica.
Jorge Figal was also sent by referee Cesar Arturo Ramos in the final phase.
But there was some confusion when the Mexican officer seemed to flash or a banknote or a playing card when showing the red.
Fans remained stunned by the bizarre scenes while responding to social media.
A posted: “Joker Tournament anyway.”
A second wrote: “They use the Joker card for this tournament.”
A third noted: “The referee must be punished for this.”
A fourth guessed: “It is a picture of the Virgin of Guadalupe – a religious symbol in Mexico.”
A fifth joke: “Probably the keycard of his hotel room.”
Another added: “Glorious haha.”
Ramos quickly realized his blunder because he could see the item grab and put it back in his pocket.
In the meantime, Chelsea is the only English team that has played in the tournament so far.
The blues hit 2-0 winners against MLS-Outfit Lafc, but Tempers also fell on that match.
Goalscorer Pedro Neto had to be stopped to demolish with Denis Bouanga.
