With Dominick Cruz during the call, Cody Garbrandt suffered a devastating setback at UFC Atlanta.
Former UFC Bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt's attempt to get back to the Title Mix of the Division, again failed at UFC Atlanta.
Garbrandt was confronted with another tough competition in Raoni Barcelos and quickly started with a large knock -down in round 1 and expressed his characteristic show boating after the early peak. But the pace and pressure of Garbrandt decreased as the fight progressed, and Barcelos let Garbrandt deteriorate in rounds 2 and 3.
After a large Takedown by Barcelos late, Garbrandt was unable to gather, despite some large fairs on the feet with seconds in the fight. Garbrandt also lost to Barcelos for his second consecutive defeat due to a unanimous decision.

Retirement calls after the loss of Cody Garbrandt at UFC Atlanta
Garbrandt returned to the Octagon for the first time since a loss of submission to DeVeson Figueiredo on UFC 300 last year. He has lost four of his last six fights in general, including a one-off Flyweight matchup with Kai Kara-France on UFC 269.
This is what UFC fans had to say about Garbrandt's seventh loss of his last ten fights.
“Let PFL pay for a bag and live the best life you can,” wrote a fan on X.
“Pension,” said another.
“Bareknuckle. No other answer.”
“Don't call Dominick Cruz.”
“Maybe pension or a final fight.”
“Pick up or become the new Tony.”
“Retired.”
“Probably slip away like his hairline.”
“He just doesn't have enough in him anymore to fight 3 rounds. He always looks good in round 1.”
“Gate keeper.”
“A hair cut and then pension.”
“Cody no fight.”
Since the beating of Dominick Cruz on UFC 207 for the UFC Bantamweight title, Garbrandt has dropped seven of his last ten fights, including losses for TJ Dillashaw, Rob Font and Pedro Munhoz. The 33-year-old started his career with an unbeaten 11-0 record.
The biggest rival of Cody Garbrandt saw him suffer a defeat at UFC Atlanta
Coincidentally, Cruz was called up for the loss of Garbrandt at UFC Atlanta and asked the game plan of his former rival for the fight. The early combinations of Garbrandt disappeared as the fight progressed, in contrast to the pace that he encouraged his opponents during the start of his UFC official period.
Cruz announced his retirement after he had pulled a planned battle with font in UFC Seattle earlier this year. It is generally considered one of the largest UFC -Bantam weights in the MMA history.
Garbrandt may be on a similar path after another setback at UFC Atlanta. Since 2016, the former title holder has only won consecutive fights once.
