Barcelona has announced their first signing of the summer, with goalkeeper Joan Garcia who arrives from Rivals Espanyol. The Blaugrana activated his release clause of € 25 million last Friday and he said goodbye to Los Pericos on Wednesday.
Garcia, 24, noticed in his Farwell video to Espanyol that he had thought of the decision for a long and hard time, and made the decision based on what was best for the club, his family, himself and his career. Yet he did not ask for understanding, and Espanyol did not show much, with a statement from one line that confirmed that his release clause had been paid, who did not mention Barcelona.
Barcelona has signed Garcia for a six -year -old deal, who will keep him in the club until 2031. Their announcement states that the official signing will take place on Friday, when he will be presented to the media. He arrives after a season that consolidates itself in the professional competition, in which he was the best goalkeeper in La Liga. Manolo Gonzalez and sports director Fran Garagarza, Manolo Gonzalez, wrote to him an important role in their survival last summer.
Garcia only broke in the Espanyol side at the end of last season, while playing a crucial role in their promotion to La Liga via the play-offs. Garcia has the experienced Fernando Pacheco and has only made 67 senior performances for Los Pericos, with another 17 for the B team. In the first team, Garcia held 21 clean sheets and gave 72 goals in those competitions.
Now Barcelona Garcia must find a way to co-exist with the current number one and captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen, or convince him to continue. The 33-year-old has left his deal for three years and has so far determined that he will compete for the number one place, despite the guarantees that it is Garcia to lose to the new arrival.
