Manchester City 2-0 Wydad AC: Late Lewis red mars routine win

Phil Foden scored one and founded another when Manchester City Wydad AC beat 2-0 in their opening club World Cup competition.

But a late red card for Rico Lewis spoiled a different ideal start for the Pep Guardiola team in Philadelphia.

Foden opened the score within two minutes and stopped home on the rebound after Mehdi Benabid had parried the ball in his path.

Omar Marmoush was centimeter away from adding a second soon thereafter, while Nathan Ake went close with a towering header, although Edererson had to be alert to not be caught by the hopeful long -distance effort of Thembinkosi Lorch.

After being denied by a nice Benabid save for a second, FODEN provider became when City doubled their count three minutes before half-time Doku, acrobatically met the insership corner of the playmaker.

Benabid made an excellent stop at the hour that was approaching, Doku this time thwarting, with replacement Erling Haaland over the bar when the city searched for a third.

Lewis, however, received a straight red card in the 88th minute, after his boot Samuel Obeng caught in the face at the next, where VAR chose not to interfere.

Data Debrief: Foden is getting along

City was hardly at their best in their first game since the conclusion of their Underwhelming Premier League season, although there were clear signs.

New signature Tijjani Reijnders held tapping things in midfield and completed 68 of 74 attempt to attempt, while Doku was a threat to the left.

Foden, however, took a goal and offered an assist with a brilliant corner, where only Savinho (three) created more opportunities for the city than the English international (two).

City ended with 1.92 expected goals to Wydad's 0.54, and brought itself into a great position to qualify from Group G, which also contains Ain and Juventus.
