Liverpool's chase from Alexander Isak is collecting pace, despite the fact that the Reds have already broken the British transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz, although Newcastle will not make it easy
Despite describing a British record transfer on Florian Wirtz, Liverpool did not give up the hope of signing Alexander Isak. The Swede has emerged as one of the best strikers in the Premier League during his three -year enchantment with Newcastle.
He has hit 62 goals in 102 performances in all matches for the Magpies since he arrived in St James' Park. This includes surpassing the 20-goal in the top flight in two consecutive seasons.
His 23 strikes last year were the most by a Newcastle player, because Alan Shearer yielded 23 in the 2001-02 campaign. Only Liverpool -star and Premier League player of the season scored Mohamed Salah more.
His performances have helped Newcastle to qualify for the Champions League in two of the last three campaigns, and winning this year's Carabao Cup, the first major trophy of the club since 1955.
Unfortunately for Newcastle, his scoring record has also made the eye of a number of rival teams. Arsenal is strongly connected to a movement, although their attention seems to be aimed at Benjamin Sesko.
Liverpool is also routinely spoken as a possible destination. And rumors about a potential move to Anfield have collected pace, such as mirror football explains below.
Transfer update
There is no doubt that a number of clubs such as the Swedish striker, among them Liverpool. Arsenal are also huge fans, with Isak that it is believed to be the number 1 choice of Mikel Arteta to be the new No. 9 of the club – if he was available. Arsenal, however, closes a deal for Benjamin Sesko, because they simply believe that they cannot land this summer.
According to various reports, Liverpool is not so sure that they cannot get Isak and do some groundwork to see if a deal can be closed. And after having broken the British transfer record in their move for Wirtz this summer, there are claims that the Reds are ready to shatter it again.
It is said that Isak is the 'Dream' target of the Premier League champion for the rest of the summer window. But the state of playing is described as 'complicated' because of Newcastle's restraint to sell.
Newcastle's attitude
That reluctance stems from the fact that Isak has three years to walk his contract. Earlier this year, CEO of Newcastle, Darren Eales, said that it would be “crazy” if Newcastle sold the striker, with the Magpies no longer under pressure to meet PSR.
Qualification for next season's Champions League adds a low to that reluctance, where the tone wants to go as far as possible. Baas Eddie Howe has made it clear that he wants to see Isak on Tyneside.
“Alex has left for three years at his deal,” said Howe last month. “Of course all contract situations are discussed and are being discussed. But they are ready to think more subtly than people from outside. There is never one right answer.
“Alex is under contract, we love him to pieces, and we want him to continue to enjoy his football as he did. We want him to continue to score goals for Newcastle for many years. That is my plan.”
The reimbursement
The long contract from Isak means that Newcastle can charge potential lovers as high as they want. There are suggestions that they could be out of price teams by refusing to admit a price tag of £ 150 million.
Liverpool is considered willing to offer compensation in the £ 100 million region, £ 16 million less than what they pay for Wirtz. But that would be far below the appreciation of Newcastle. And with the Saudi support of the tone and a return to the Champions League this season – plus stimulated with the club by winning silverware in the form of the League Cup previous period – they are not for chopping.
Whether they can be tempted in any way, we have to wait.
