Liverpool has been encouraged to take action by a former player in the midst of claiming that they can lose one of their most important stars, with reported interest of an overseas rival
An ex-livepool striker has criticized the club for their handling of Andy Robertson's contract as Atletico Madrid Eye a Move for the Left Back. The 31-year-old, who has lifted the Premier League title twice since his arrival from Hull City in 2017, now starts the last year of his current deal in Anfield.
Robertson has been an important player for Liverpool and helps them to win the Champions League in 2019, with several domestic awards under his belt. The Scotland International became the subject of reports that connect him to Atletico last week.
Despite the fact that he had the first discussions about his future in Liverpool, criticism is now aimed at the club because he no longer secured his services. Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders expressed dismay about the idea that Robertson is leaving, comparing it with the switch from Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.
Liverpool seems to be eager to sign Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez because they are planning a long-term future without Robertson. However, Saunders has called for Reds to extend his stay.
The former wolves and Wrexham manager spoke on Talksport, said: “It is another disastrous company from Liverpool. They have Trent's contract.
“With two years to switch to his contract, they should have called him and said,” Are you going to sign this contract? Or we should sell you. “
“Andy Robertson is in the same position. He is only 31, and he is as good left back as you can get somewhere. Why are you trying to change him? I don't know. He has three years left in him, so give him a new contract.”
Robertson recently confirmed that he held the first conversations with Liverpool through a new contract, but his long -term future at the club remains uncertain.
Robertson said to Sky Sports: “Of course we discussed it, of course we have. We had good discussions with me and the club, but I don't know for sure what the future knows in store.
“I need after a long season and then I look forward to the preseason, that's all my focus, I can't look too far ahead. I have never done that, so I'm not going to do that now.
“I know that the position I am in and I have only had a year left and there is a lot talking about and said, but my full focus is on being a father for the next few weeks and enjoy that time with the children.
“Then I will try to come back to the best possible form for the preseason and then we will see what the future is in store when these decisions come.”
