There are question marks about the long -term Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea – not because of his latest red card, but because so many clubs want to sign a striker this summer.
Jackson was sent 3-1 loss against Flamengo only four minutes after a replacement of Chelsea's 3-1 loss during the Club World Cup on Friday for a studs-up challenge for a studs-up challenge.
The red card, his second in five games after his resignation against Newcastle last month, has put his future in Chelsea in the spotlight after the £ 30 million from Liam Delap.
Sky in Italy says that Juventus and Napoli want to sign Jackson, who scored 13 goals in 36 games in all games last season, but other clubs are also interested.
Chelsea signed Jackson two years ago from Villarreal for £ 30 million. Last summer he signed a two -year contract extension that connects him to Chelsea until 2033.
Chelsea has already brought Delap from Ipswich this summer and can sign another striker before the end of the transfer window.
Jackson will be suspended for the last group D match of Chelsea against Esperance on Wednesday in the club World Cup and FIFA can increase his automatic suspension of one match after they have revised the incident.
He is also suspended for Chelsea's opening Premier League match of the season against Crystal Palace after his red card in St James' Park, which gave him a ban of three games.
Jackson apologized last night on social media for his red card against Flamengo and said on Instagram: “I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates and all fans watching, I have disappointed you.
“Another red card … And to be honest I am so angry with myself. I work hard every day to help the team not put us in this kind of situation.
“I still don't quite understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it was not intentional. Just a moment in football that went the wrong way.
“No apologies. I take full responsibility. I will think, I will grow and I will come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me.
'Sorry. Sorry, sorry. “
Jackson Save a 'stupid' error
Jackson's red card against Flamengo led to an angry reaction from former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012.
“Unbelievable. Stupid, stupid, stupid mistake,” Mikel told Dazn.
“I don't know what's going through his head. You get into the game, you're 2-1 down, your team needs you and you do that.
“He did it in the important Premier League match against Newcastle, when we had to win to qualify for the Champions League places, and he did it again.
“You can't keep making mistakes.”
Jackson's red card came after an impressive first start of Delap, who joined Chelsea to compete for the starting place of the Senegal International in the Enzo Maresca team.
“I don't care what his frustration is,” Mikel added. “Chelsea is a huge football club and it is about competition.
“If you are angry, if you come from the Delap to the club and he becomes your competition, you have to embrace it.
“If you are a big player, you embrace it.
“Jackson must look at himself and think where he wants his Chelsea career to go from here.
“The manager has brought in a striker, so if the manager now starts to doubt him, if he keeps making mistakes and dropping his teammates and the club, then it's time for Delap to start the games.
“The manager now has a decision to make.”
Maresca would not be attracted to Jackson's broadcast in his interview after the game. “It was a red card, so nothing to say,” he said.
