Rashford: Yamal can win the Ballon d’Or

Marcus Rashford believes that Lamine Yamal from Barcelona is one of the front runners who this year scooped Ballon d'Or.

Yamal played in front of Hansi Flick when they completed a domestic treble while they lifted the titles of Laliga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa the Espana.

In the most successful season of the club since 2015-16, Yamal was one of the attacking highlights with 18 goals and 21 assists in all competitions.

Indeed, not a single player of the top five European competitions born in the 21st century last season registered as much target involvement in all competitions as the talented teenager.

He ended the Liga campaign as the leader in assists (13), shots from outside the box (67), created great opportunities (28), shots after a Carry (56), opportunities created after a carry (33) and droplets completed (161).

Yamal will be presented by Paris Saint-Germain's Ousmane Dembele and teammate Raphinha for the prize, although Rashford believes that the Spaniard is a worthy winner.

“It depends on how you look at it,” Rashford told the Xbuyer YouTube channel. 'Just outside of football capacity, I think he [Yamal] must win.

“But if you look at Dembele in the Champions League, he can of course win. Depends on how you see it. I would not be disappointed if one of them would win.

“It's hard to put into words because he doesn't have to do that on 16 or 17 years old.

“He plays at the highest level at the age of 16. I don't think we've seen this before.”

Rashford was also present to talk about his own future, after he had spent the second half of last season on loan in Aston Villa after he had gotten out of grace at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old scored four goals and registered six assists in 17 performances in all matches under Unai Emery, and is expected to leave the Red Devils this summer.

Barcelona is one of the clubs that are linked to the international England, who revealed that he would like to play alongside Yamal.

“Certainly [on playing with Yamal]. Everyone in the world wants to play with the best, so hopefully we will see, “Rashford added.

“It is not normal to do what he is. He will continue to improve, so in three years we will not know what we are going to say about him.”
