Mbappe to miss second Club World Cup match for Real Madrid

Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Kylian Mbappe will miss the Club World Cup collision of Real Madrid with Pachuca, but it is hopeful that the striker will return to Red Bull Salzburg.

Real Madrid announced on Thursday that Mbappe suffered from the disease and was admitted as such with acute gastroenteritis and missed their draw against Al-Hilal.

The French International, who scored 43 goals in all competitions in his debut campaign for Los Blancos last season, has since been fired and returned to the team.

Allegedly Mbappe skipped the training session on Saturday, with Alonso revealing that the 26-year-old would not be part of the traveling team for their group H Clash.

“He feels a little better. He is back at the hotel after being released from the hospital,” Alonso told Dazn.

“But I think Sunday will be difficult for him. Hopefully we can have him back for the Salzburg match.”

The side of Alonso is currently second in their group, behind Salzburg after they had defeated Pachuca in their first group match.

Madrid's 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal ended a point of 11 consecutive victories in the World Cup club and ended the longest winning run on each side in the history of the tournament.

It was the first time they were unable to win a club world cup match since 2000 (1-1 vs. Necaxa, lost 3-4 on penalties).

In the previous meeting between the teams last year, it was Madrid who came to the top 3-0 in their FIFA Intercontinental Cup match.

In their December 2024 affair in Qatar, both Madrid and Pachuca each had 12 shots, where the Spanish team still had a shot on goal (five compared to the Mexican side (four), and with a superior expected goals (XG) (2.47 – 0.35).
