Ex-Blues ‘RESIGNS from his role as manager’ with players and staff ‘shocked’

A former Chelsea star reportedly resigned from his role as manager of a club.

The news has stunned players and employees and comes only a few days after he has referred to the side as a 'pub team'.

During his time at Chelsea he won two Premier League titles and the League Cup.

He also played for various other Premier League clubs and made 100 performances at international level.

The person was in charge of his club since 2021 and had been successful in terms of winning silverware.

However, he has now apparently chosen to leave.

As reported by RTE, Damien Duff has resigned from his position as Shelbourne manager.

Duff has chosen to leave the club after a 1-0 defeat at home on Derry City on Friday, with Shelbourne currently in sixth place in the table.

Shelbourne is at home in Waterford on Monday at home, but it seems that Duff will not be in the dugout.

Duff was furious after the game against Derry City and claimed that his players had acted as a pub team.

He said: “This (the most important division) is your bread and butter. They are in Europe, in the Champions League, because of the competition.

“I asked them before the (derry) competition, I said it's 18 days to the Champions League, and I said that they would have a Champions League mentality, motivation, energy here.

'I would say that pub teams have better motivation, energy, quality than we do. Damn words, but I am right to say them. '

There was further criticism of his Duff players when he said: 'I will never give them more than three games in a week. As I said to them during the break, as I said to them at the end of the game, how well did you prepare as individuals? Did you have an hour in the sun yesterday or today?

“I would say that I have prepared better than some guys. Admittedly, even if you prepare, you can enter a flat, lack of energy.

'How motivated are you to pull yourself out of that rut, to give yourself a conversation? I think some of our boys just accept it and sit there for the night.

“They hurt as they should be and we should be.

Duff led Shelbourne to the competition title in the 2024 season, while the club also reached the final of the Fai Cup in 2022, where they were defeated by Derry City.

During his gaming career, Duff Chelsea represented between 2003 and 2006. He also played for Blackburn, Fulham and Newcastle.

He had a long international career at the Republic of Ireland, in which he earned caps for a century.
