Dana White has let in fans about the details of his phone call with Jon Jones in the evening, where the UFC icon confirmed his retirement.
The legendary world champion Two weight Jones is just a few weeks after his 38th birthday and has chosen to hang his gloves instead of uniting the heavyweight division with Tom Aspinall. Now the Brit is elevated to the undisputed champion and will defend later this year.
Jones has been competing in the UFC since 2008 and won his first light-heavyweight title in March 2011. His career was marred by controversy in and out of the cage including arrests and failed drug tests, but he is still generally considered the greatest of all time.
Dana White Details Jones' Pension Phone Conversation
With Bloody Elbow at Fanatics Fest in New York this afternoon, Dana White explained how Jon Jones called him while he was in Azerbaijan for UFC Baku and confirmed his plan to retire. He remained cautious about whether it was emotional and noted that Jones currently also has to do with external problems.
“He called us and just started saying:” You know what, I think I'm done, I want to retire, it's a great run and I appreciate everything, “White said about the call.” That was it and he was absolutely sure that he wanted to retire.

“We said,” Why don't you sleep on it and if you wake up in the morning when you still feel like that … “” asked if he felt that the call was emotional, white did not give a strong answer, but added: “Yes, I never know what Jon Jones has to do with.
'Then you wake up the next day and [he’s facing legal issues] So who knows? We do not know everything that went in this decision.
“It is something you should ask him if you ever see him more, but I don't know the answer to these questions. I just know that he made it very clear that he wanted to retire and I don't agree with him.”
