Lindelöf: I’ll always be a Man Utd fan, Hope next season is better than this one

Victor Lindelöf has confirmed that he will leave Manchester United this summer after the expiry of his contract. In a farewell interview with the official channel of the club, the Swedish defender expressed his gratitude and love for the club and her fans.

Although he leaves as a player, Lindelöf made clear:

“I will always be a fan of Manchester United.”

After United's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the last day of the Premier League season, the club officially announced that Lindelöf, together with Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans, would not have any new contracts.

Lindelöf spent eight seasons in Old Trafford, made 284 performances and helped the team to win the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

Now 30, Lindelöf is preparing for the next chapter in his career, but before that he took the time to think about his journey at United and what it meant to wear the famous red shirt.

He described his last performance in Old Trafford as the perfect farewell:

“A perfect end,” he said Mutv. “A clean slate and a victory – such as a great way to draw.”

“Able to celebrate with my family on the field, then made it even more special. I really couldn't have asked for a better farewell.”

While he acknowledged that not every season went smoothly, Lindelöf praised the fans because he was always with the team:

“Yes, I am proud of myself,” he said. “There were many ups and downs.”

“But it was an honor to represent this club for eight years – it was really a dream come true.”

Asked for his most memorable moment, Lindelöf could not mention only one, but emphasized the 2023/24 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City as a highlight:

“Winning the FA Cup was a great moment,” he said. “It is such a historical competition and it was great to lift the trophy.”

Trophies aside, which cherishes Lindelöf the most, is the emotional bond with the fans:

“I made so many great memories here,” he added. “Just look at the end of Stretford – I know I will miss it very much.”

“The fans have always been with us, regardless of the result. They appear every week, support us and sing their hearts.”

“I just want to thank – for the welcome of me.”

Although his next destination remains unknown, Lindelöf made one thing clear:

“I leave as a player, but I will always be a fan of United,” he said.

“I wish my teammates and everyone at the club the very best. Hopefully next season will be a little better than this one.”

“I believe it will be.”
