Tom Aspinall’s first UFC heavyweight title defense all but set following ‘very confident’ negotiations

Tom Aspinall's first official UFC Heavyweight Title Defense can be set only a few days after he became the undisputed champion.

Last Saturday the UFC Heavyweight Titelsaga between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall finally ended after Dana White announced that Jones was officially retired.

Not long after the announcement, Aspinall broke his silence on social media and swore that he will get the heavyweight division moving again after months of uncertainty.

And when last Tuesday the father of Aspinall came out and the UFC criticized for the way they announced the news in the middle of the night in Baku.

Aspinall's first defense everything except the following negotiations

Although fans were extremely hopeful on a fight between Aspinall and Jones, they have now come to terms that it will not happen.

And although there was hope that Alex Pereira would go to heavyweight to take Aspinall, the Brazilian recently came out and declared that he focuses on a rematch against Magomed Ankalaev.

This means that there are probably only two names that are useful for the first undisputed title defense of the Brit and they are Alexander Volkov and Ciryl Gane.

The two were opposite what controversy ended last year when Gane got the decision gain. After the fight, Dana White even apologized to Volkov, because he thought it was a robbery.

Aspinall, however, has already scored a dominant victory over the Russian in 2022 and that is why it looks increasingly likely that Aspinall will fight next 'Bon Gamin'.

Earlier this week, the Main Event of UFC Paris was announced, which would usually include Gane, but the map will be held by Nassourdine Imavov and Caio Borralho.

“My manager spoke with the matchmaking, with Hunter (Campbell). I know they are working on it this week, and we can keep in touch. Nothing has been resolved, we just wait for more discussions and perhaps a location and date. We really have faith in this fight,” said not filtered UFC.

Ciryl Gane once rejected a fight against Tom Aspinall

Although the decision probably ends up in the hands of Aspinall, who admitted that he wants to return around October, he will more than probably accept a fight against the French striker.

The two are linked to fight each other earlier when Aspinall was arranged outside the top three.

After his return of injury, Aspinall was looking for an opponent, and when the fight was offered, Gane rejected it because he said he didn't want to fight the ranking and only wanted to fight the ranking.
