Dustin Poirier tells Charles Oliveira how to fight Ilia Topuria at UFC 317… ‘He starts breaking’

Charles Oliveira has received some advice on how you can get Ilia Topuria better on UFC 317.

Almost three years after the loss of Oliveira against Islam Makhachev, the Brazilian fan favorite finally has another chance to become a double UFC light weight champion.

The dominant victory of Oliveira over Michael Chandler last November was enough to place him at the top of the queue. And with Islam Makhachev who leaves the lightweight title, 'Do Bronx' has his shot against a phenomenon from below.

In the UFC 317 Main Event Oliveira Topuria is welcomed to 155 pounds. 'El Matador' strives for two-division glory after saying goodbye to the difficult reduction of featherweight.

Despite the size and experience of his opponent in the weight class, Topuria is widely preferred to the Pay-per-View of 28 June. But one of the former opponents of Oliveira sees paths for success for the Brazilian.

Dustin Poirier advises Charles Oliveira to fight against Ilia Topuria as he fought him years ago

During a recent performance on the Bohnfire podcast with Mike Bohn, Poirier looked ahead to the crowning of a new Kingpin in his old division.

'The Diamond' is well placed to break down the game, with a memorable back and forth with half of the main event on Saturday at UFC 269. On that night in 2021, Poirier was submitted by Oliveira in round three.

If 'Do Bronx' to include a similar result on UFC 317, Poirier advised him to look back on how he approached his defending defense against the Louisianan more than three years ago.

“(Topuria's) Trust in his Jiu-Jitsu. He is going to follow Charles,” said Poirier. “We have seen Charles, when boys are wary and play Jiu-Jitsu with him and are not afraid of that, he starts to break a little.

“But we will see what Charles appears. It's a nice fight. It's a nice matchup. I think Charles should fight against Ilia in the same way as he fought against me.

“He was completely inside or he was completely out,” Poirier added. “He never really fought me in that boxing range. When he was inside, it was a clinch work, body locks. He mumbled my boxing. Or he was on a kick range.

“He has to be completely in or out. He can't play the boxing pocket game. He has to record. He doesn't have to exchange photos in the bag with a shorter man who can crack.”

Charles Oliveira has sworn to walk ahead against Ilia Topuria

While Topuria is known for the dreaded power in his fists, Oliveira will not be deterred.

Despite seeing Topuria Knock -Out Alexander Volkanovski and the first to put Max Holloway in the Octagon, Oliveira still promises to march forward.

That seems to have been music in the ears of 'El Matador', who told Ariel Helwani during the Vechtweek that 'everything he needs' is for his Brazilian rival to walk ahead.

Are predicted result of such action? Light out.
