Myles Lewis-Skelly only had a year to his arsenal contract and attracted interest from Real Madrid, but the teenager has now reportedly signed an extension
Myles Lewis-Skelly reportedly signed a new deal with Arsenal after an excellent breakthrough campaign. Lewis-Skelly made 39 senior performances last season and settled as the first choice of the Gunners.
The performances of the 18-year-old earned him a PFA-Jonge player of the season nomination, alongside Ethan Nwaneri, Liam Delap, Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez and Morgan Rogers.
Reports had also claimed that Lewis-Skelly had attracted the attention of Real Madrid, who kept an eye on his contract situation and were ready to catch if Arsenal could not bind him to a new deal.
However, last week it was reported that the teenager was close to signing an extension and it has now been claimed that Lewis-Skelly Pen put on paper.
According to countless reports, Lewis-Skelly has signed his new deal and a photo shoot for an official announcement. In the new contract he is rewarded for his form with a considerable payment rise.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta would have been the key during the conversations and Lewis-Skelly previously praised the Spaniard as a “genius”. Lewis-Skelly spoke with Sky Sports in April: “I will play where the manager needs me, and it is important to be versatile.
“The top players in the world can take different positions. So for me I will do what is needed to be in the team. I want to work out my potential. I just want to be the best version of me every day.
“I feel that it would bring me in a good position in this industry. I just want to be a sponge and take everything with me, becoming the best version I can. [Arteta] Attention to detail is incredible.
“I like to learn, so learning him and the way he treats and approaches the games, it's fascinating. There is so much that I can take it from him. He really is a genius.”
Earlier this month, Arsenal announced that Gabriel Magalhaes Center-back Gabriel Magalhaes had also drawn a new long-term deal and that they also close different signing sessions, with Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arizabalaga all ready to become a member of the club.
