Former UFC Bantamweight Brett Johns Signs with Ilia Topuria's Wow FC Na PFL -Exit
Prior to his featherweight title defense against Max Holloway, it was announced that Ilia Topuria had become a part-owner of the Spanish MMA promotion, Way of Warrior FC.
Topuria hopes that in his involvement the promotion can be the platform that Spanish hunters need, that was not available for him during his way to the UFC.
The next event of the promotion, which is broadcast on UFC Fight Pass by Marbella, Spain, will contain a former UFC hunter who has also spent time in the PFL, as reported by Ben Thomas.
Brett Johns arrived for the first time in the UFC in November 2016 and brought a 11-0 record with him in his Octagon debut.
The Welshman was able to hit the ground on the big stage and won three in a row, including a 30-second victory on Joe Soto who only saw him produce the second calf fling in UFC history.
Johns' Streak led him to a matchup with Aljamain Sterling, who won the fight through a unanimous decision, who started his winning run that went all the way to the Bantamweight title.
He separated distance from the UFC in 2020 after his contract had passed, after having gone 5-2 in the Octagon, before he made various performances with Bellator and PFL.
Johns was previously announced as part of the GFL schedule, but now he will look back from successive losses by debuting in WOW FC from Topuria.
Brett Johns faced Georgian Talent Levan Kirtadze on his WOW FC debut
While the PFL-Run of Brett Johns may have ended in back-to-back losing, he is still a high-level competitor in the European scene.
On WOW 21 on 9 August he will take on Georgia's Levan Kirtadze while both men try to return to the winning column in the Co-Main event of the evening.
Although it has not yet been announced, a colleague Welsh Fighter will also perform in the main event, according to the promotion.
Kirtadze has a record of 13-5, in the past by remarkable European names such as Sanikidze and Tobias Harila.
After suffering a loss of decision in May, he hopes to regain some momentum by gaining the biggest victory of his career at a former UFC hunter who showed a clear potential in the Octagon.
