Conflicting reports emerge on Atletico Madrid deal for Cristian Romero

Atletico Madrid wants to sign a new center-back this summer and their leading target is the Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentina International has previously explained his wish to play in La Liga, which gives hope to Los Colchoneros in their efforts to get a deal.

A deal for Romero was made more difficult by Spurs' Europa League Success, which caused Champions League qualification for next season. Nevertheless, efforts will be made to sign the 27-year-old.

And according to a report from Argentina journalist Fernando Czyz, those efforts are on the point of being successful. He has claimed that Athleti almost corresponds to a deal with Spurs for a fee in the region of € 65 million.

This would be more than the reported asking price of € 60 million that Spurs had previously established, but behind this report from Argentina, several sources have refused a threatening deal with Atleti for Romero.

Sky Sports has reported that the Argentina report is “not true”, while Matteo Moretto has also confirmed that Athleti and Spurs have not yet agreed with compensation for Romero.

Spurs are not busy selling Romero, despite his reported desire to move to Spain. New head coach Thomas Frank also counts on the Argentinian, making it even harder for Los Colchoneros to get their husbands.

Nevertheless, it is expected that Athleti will not give up so easily in their pursuit of Romero. He is the chosen that is added to the center-back options of Diego Simeone next to Robin le Normand, Jose Maria Gimenez and Clement Lenglet, but if a deal cannot be closed, they are willing to go after another top player if this means that it is great.
