Greenwood meets up with Mainoo as the star steps up preparations for new season

Mason Greenwood was seen on training in Manchester with former United Team Mats Kobbie Mainoo and James Garner.

Greenwood, 23, is fresh from an impressive debut season for Marseille where he scored 21 goals in 34 Ligue 1 appearances as the French side qualified for the Champions League.

The attacker signed for Marseille last summer for a fee worth £ 27 million, plus £ 3.2 million in add-ons, after his 17-year-old association with United came to an end.

That was after the 23-year-old was accused of attempted rape, mistreatment and controlling and compelling behavior in October 2022, but the charges and case were withdrawn in February 2023 when the most important witnesses withdrew. Greenwood has always denied misconduct.

The Red Devils then decided that Greenwood would not be integrated into the first team in the summer of 2023 after an internal investigation took place and sent him to Getafe for the 2023-24 season, before his permanent relocation to Marseille.

And on Tuesday, Greenwood was seen with Garner and Mainoo, two stars that also came through the United Youth Rigs, while he steps for his preparations for the new campaign.

Greenwood and Garner, who now plays for Everton, were both in the same age group in the Academy and they also played five times for the first team.

Mainoo is three years younger than Greenwood, but is a colleague academy product and signed his first professional contract in May 2022.

On the photos the trio was seen in training equipment and with football boots in a council that plays fields in Manchester.

In the meantime, Greenwood has been linked to a relocation of Marseille this summer after his 21 goals had shared the Ligue 1 Golden Boot with PSG star and Ballon d'Or Contender Ousmane Dembele.

In May, the Telegraph claimed that two Premier League clubs weigh a movement for the attacker, who was sharpening his skills during the summer in various other clips that originated on social media.

However, the striker was confronted with criticism of points in 2024-25 for his work percentage, while he was also discussed this period earlier by supporters and even on one occasion was fallen by his support manager.

Nevertheless, the Zerbi generally spoke glowing about Greenwood and revealed in April that he believes that he has the qualities to join the Pantheon of all time in Marseille.

“Greenwood is a natural talent,” said the Italian. “All honor goes to his mother and father. And I am here to help him become more complete.

'If he needs a hug, a word of support, I would like to give it. And if I have to push him to give more, I have to do that too, because that is my job.

'I would especially like to help him remember, in this stadium and by these supporters, as one of the greatest players who played here in the Vélodrome.

'There have been so many great players here, but I think Greenwood has the qualities to be remembered in this way. And I try to help him make progress. '

Marseille became second in Ligue 1 in 2024-25, which was enough to qualify for the Champions League, although they ended up 19 points behind Champions PSG.
