Atletico Madrid confirmed the signing of Villarreal Pelenmaker Alex Baena, after last week for the conditions had been agreed. The 23-year-old will play an important role in the play tasks in the Metropolitano, after two stellar seasons in the yellow submarine.
Los Colchoneros has already confirmed permanent signing sessions for earlier Loanese Clement Lenglet and Juan Musso, which was followed by left -wing Matteo Ruggeri. However, the addition of Baena can shift the needle for Atletico.
Negotiations on Baena have been going on since May, with Los Rojiblancos trying to lower the reimbursement in the first instance by recording Rodrigo Riquelme. Baena had a release clause of € 55 million and Villarreal was willing to accept less, but Atletico could ultimately pay that if all variables are due. Diario as say that the fixed reimbursement is € 42 million, with € 8 million in more feasible add-ons. The last € 5 million is much more difficult to secure and depends on titles. Baena has signed the dotted line for the next five years until 2030 and has secured the future in the long term of the Spain International. He already has an Olympic gold medal, a euro 2024 medal and a Europa League winner's medal in his young career, the former two won in his 10 caps (two goals). In the past two seasons, Baena has 28 assists and 12 goals, making him one of the most important creative forces in football.
