Paddy Pimblett’s coach rejects Ilia Topuria being the ‘best lightweight in the world’ despite UFC 317 KO

Not everyone is ready to call UFC 317 Main Event winner Ilia Topuria, the unparalleled best on 155 pounds.

Topuria played Charles Oliveira in the main event of last Saturday's pay-per-view in the T-Mobile Arena of Las Vegas, making him the one who succeeds Islam Makhakev as champion.

An option for the first defense of the Spaniard quickly came forward, while Topuria and Pimblett were confronted with an antistagic fight that became physical.

If that fight along the line happens with the lightweight championship at stake, the Pimblett coach does not think that his hunter would challenge the best of the division.

The coach of Paddy Pimblett insists that Islam Makhachev is still the best lightweight, not Ilia Topuria

After Pimblett had made his claim for the first shot to have Topuria's title rule, the Scouser coach spoke about the new champion during an interview with Submission Radio.

Paul Rimmer, who, among other things, trains 'The Baddy' at the next generation of MMA in Liverpool, revealed that he does not consider Topuria as the world's best lightweight after UFC 317.

According to Pimblett's coach, that crown is still “unmistakably” on the head of Makhachev.

“If we were offered the two fights, Ilia and (Makhachev), I would be more concerned about the (Makhachev) fight than the Ilia fight.

“For me, Islam is the man in the division, the undefeated man in the division … He is undeniably the best lightweight in the world.”

Ilia Topuria is supported by Ko Islam Makhachev at Welterweight

Now that Makhachev is going to the Welterweight department, Topuria probably does not get the chance to incorrectly prove the Pimblett coach.

But that does not mean that the long -awaited battle with the Dagestani is completely off the table.

Although Topuria promised the UFC that he would not apply for a good weight movement to chase Makhachev, many people eventually expect 'El Matador' to realize his threefold dreams.

And if Makhachev is on the throne when it arrives, UFC Hall of Famer Jens Pulver Topuria predicts to KOL's ex-light weight.

“I told you,” Pulver said during a watch together with UFC 317 at the UFC Fight Pass YouTube channel. “He's going to disable them all; that combination. Jab to the belly, boom, boom, they hook in, over it!

“He is going to disable Makhachev. I told you he is going to Makhachev, he will disable him. That is his goal.

“Guy, he didn't play alone (Oliveira), he hurt him, he hurt him. He hit him unconscious. … He touches too hard.”
