All good things come to an end. All legends say goodbye. Inter Miami says goodbye to the Club World Cup with several loose ends to be tied. Although the continuity of Messi seems almost certain, the future of Luis Suárez is in balance. According to AS, apart from a last-minute twist, “El Pistolero” will not return to Miami next season. His next step is unknown and the pension looms up on the horizon.
The time of Suárez in Florida will officially end in December. The Uruguayan contract runs until the end of the year, and it is not expected that he will be renewed with the herons – a decision was said to be charged since his extension in January, shortly after the team's participation was confirmed to the club World Cup. For Inter Miami, his departure will be crucial to adjust their finances. As a designated player, Suárez recommends one of the highest salaries on the Roster.
Although his American chapter is approaching up close, Suárez is determined to leave at a peak. A beloved figure in the dressing room of the Chase Stadium, he is not satisfied with only the supporters' Shield – claimed to the best team in the regular season of MLS. Winning the MLS Cup would be a suitable final for a shimmering career with Champions League titles, Liga MX, the League Cup, the Eredivisie and a Copa América. Not bad at all.
In just over a year, Suárez carved his own legacy in Inter Miami. He is already the second highest scorer of the club with 34 goals, with only Messis 50. Even while his body, especially has his knee the wear of a long career, he has proven to be the ideal stand-in when Messi is not available.
“My body speaks and the pain that I feel every day is intense,” said Suárez in an interview in 2023. “I deserved the right to decide, say 'enough' and to enjoy where I play – and to be with my children, who have not recently had much vacation time and have left my side. I need to enjoy a club. If I don't go back.
Now the big question is what is coming. Outside of football, Suárez is one of the founders of LSM, a club in the fourth division of Uruguay, co-ownership of Leo Messi. The “Pistolero” could make the leap to the Front Office with the aim of leading the club to the top flight of Uruguay. Only time will learn it.
