Barcelona hopes to complete the signing of Nico Williams soon, after which they will concentrate on tackling other areas of the Hansi Flick team. And a position they want to look at is right back.
Jules Kounde has been one of the best right backs in the world for the past 2-3 years, but Flick has little faith in his alternatives to the French International. Hector Fort struggled for playing time last season, and there may be chances for him to leave Barcelona this summer on loan or for a permanent deal with a buy-back clause.
If that happens, Barcelona will almost certainly explore the signing of a new right back. They have been linked to Marc Pubill in recent weeks, but a more established name has now emerged.
As revealed by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona is one of the clubs that has followed the situation of Denzel Dumfries. The 29-year-old is interesting for the La Liga champions, but so far no formal approach or offer has been made to Inter.
Dumfries is available for € 25 million according to a release clause in his contract, but this is only active in the coming weeks. And that is why it can be difficult for Barcelona to get a movement before mid -July, since they focus heavily on Williams and Sales.
Barcelona knows Dumfries very well and he terrorized them during their semi-final defeat of Champions League against Inter. He registered two goals and three assists about the two legs, which contributed to five of the seven goals of the Nerazzurri in the draw.
As an alternative to Kounde, Dumfries would be an excellent player for Flick's playing style. However, it seems very unlikely that Barcelona will be able to close a deal before his release clause is in value.
