Liverpool ‘want to sign Bundesliga defender with £78m release clause’

Liverpool is said to be interested in signing random RB Leipzig -defender Castello Lukeba – but will probably have to struggle for him.

The Reds shed their search for a center-back after the sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £ 35 million.

Lukeba, 22, has built up a strong reputation in Lyon and Leipzig in recent seasons and earned a Senior France Cap.

But the 6ft0in star is also the subject of interest of Bayern Munich and Tottenham, according to the French Outlet Voet Mercato.

They write that although his release clause has been set at almost £ 78 million, Leipzig has an informal agreement to make him leave less.

But his deal runs until 2029, so he will probably not be cheap, and he is previously connected to Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Lukeba, who played for France under 21 at this summer's euros, is compared to Josko Gvardiol, another physical defender who left Leipzig for Manchester City in 2023.

He is left left and usually plays on that side of the defense, able to go in a back three or four in a back.

Liverpool had this summer on the transfer market after signing Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez for a combined sum of at least £ 169.5 million.

But they have to plan ahead in view of the contract situation with regard to Ibrahima Konate.

The Frenchman's deal has risen in a year and so far the negotiations have not enabled to make significant progress.

The interest of Real Madrid is real and Paris Saint-Germain is also encouraged as a potential destination for Konate, 26.

Lukeba is not the only target that Liverpool has established their sights.

The side of Arne Slot also loves Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who answers their interest.

Their chances of breaking up the Crystal Palace captain depends on the prize demanded by the FA Cup winners.

It has been talking that Liverpool will try to try a Lowball Palace for £ 30 million, while Palace would demand around £ 50 million.

Last year the Eagles rejected a £ 65 million from Newcastle, but now he only has a year left in his deal in Selhurst Park.
