Real Madrid moved early this summer to bring in Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen. The idea was to bring in a left back before the World Cup Club, but their move for Alvaro Carreras got stuck. The last file on the table was the signing of a midfielder.
It is expected that a deal for Benfica's Carreras will still be completed, despite disagreements about the price between the Portuguese giants and Real Madrid. The last part of the puzzle was supposed to be a midfielder. Before the World Cup club it was published that Real Madrid was aware that there was a gap in their team there.
Enzo Fernandez, Alexis Mac Allister, Rodri Hernandez and Martin Zubimendi were all identified as options for a controlling role, but after missing the latter, there is doubt about who will move Los Blancos. They don't want to spend a big money, and all three of the first would represent a large investment, while a step for the Angelo Stiller of Stuttgart is for the time being.
According to Diario AS, however, Real Madrid increasingly looks at Turkish Starlet Arda Guler as that player. Guler started playing deeper against Pachuca and was deliberately used there against RB Salzburg. Impressive minutes at the foot of midfield against Juventus and the Austrian side started to convince Los Blancos that he can play the role.
His assets on the ball are undisputed and they believe that Guler can organize the side. Defensively, his positioning and repair of the ball could do with work, but he has shown Xabi Alonso that he is willing to learn.
It is pointed out that Carlo Ancelotti Guler has already tipped for a deeper role in the coming seasons, but the question will be whether Alonso believes that he is ready. Real Madrid tends not to act on the market, unless they are sure about moving for a player, and if there are no convincing alternatives, Alonso may have to rely on the 20-year-old to take the reins in midfield. It should help that Aurelien Tchouameni, Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold can all help with playing Deep.
