Diogo Jota, a 28-year-old Portuguese Liverpool footballer, died early this morning in a traffic accident in the province of Zamora.
The accident occurred at kilometer 65 of the A-52, towards Benavente, near the Zamora region in Sanabria.
The Liverpool player died when the vehicle he was driving with his brother André, a 26-year-old professional football player from Penafiel, left the road and caused a fire.
According to witnesses who called 112, the car was flooded in flames, which also spread to nearby vegetation. Various sources suggest that one of the tires of the car may have burst, so that it left the road and burst into flames.
