Dana White’s past reason for controversial Colby Covington title shot might annoy snubbed UFC 317 backup Arman Tsarukyan

Arman Tsarukyan will apparently not be rewarded for his efforts in the UFC 317 Fight Week.

Tsarukyan was one of the lightweight contenders that were present in Las Vegas, because the UFC June closed with the latest episode of International Fight Week. A new king was crowned in the division of the Russian-Armens in the absence of Islam Makhachev, in which Ilia Topuria Charles Oliveira eliminated to become a member of the Club of Tweedivisie UFC champions.

'Akhalkalakets' was close by being successful as the back -up hunter for the Main Event of UFC 317, a position that might lend itself to Tsarukyan first to challenged Topuria.

But that probably does not seem the case, despite the past of the UFC -woning backups with the chance. And not all of them had such a strong case as the current No. 2-ranked competitions.

Dana White used Colby Covington's back -uprol to justify another UFC title shot

One of the most discussed back -up performances recently came when Colby Covington appeared from nowhere to take the scale in London.

'Chaos' weighed as the alternative in 2023 for the UFC 286 Main Event, where Leon Edwards Kamaru USman beats in a trilogy fight. At the time, Covington was not far from two failed title bids against Usman and he had only defeated Jorge Masvidal since his second loss for 'the Nigerian nightmare'.

With that in mind, many were relieved when the UFC Edwards vs Covington started to set up in the aftermath of the event in the capital of England.

During a press conference after the conclusion of the map, Dana White defended the planned booking, and justified a different title shot for Covington by noting his successful Wegdagen earlier and high ranking.

“I don't know when we're doing it, but that's the fight that makes sense,” said White. “Colby came here and cut weight and did everything to be here for this fight. He deserves the fight, not to mention the fact that he is the second or third best man in the world.”

The same parameters are not used for Tsarukyan, both of whom have made weight for UFC 317 and the highest ranking among those fighting occupied a title option.

Arman Tsarukyan still pays the prize for UFC 311 accident

The reasoning for Tsarukyan's snub is undoubtedly the events that turned into Los Angeles last January.

His deserved title shot fell apart after a clear injury during the weight reduction for UFC 311 forced the Russian-Armens from his rematch with Makhachev on a day report.

With the fact that forcing the promotion to Scramble to put together a new main event, it seems that Tsarukyan still has work to get the UFC higher ups on board again for his title challenge.

“No,” White said at his press conference after UFC 317 when he was asked if Tsarukyan would fight for the title. “It's a step in the right direction.”
