Mohamed Salah ‘has agreed a new two-year contract at Liverpool’

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a new contract with Mohamed Salah.

There has been much speculation about the future of the winger, whose current contract expires at the end of June.

As reported by The Mirror, Salah is now on the verge of signing a new two-year contract to remain at Anfield.

Salah's agent Rammy Abbas told Liverpool he wanted a three-year contract for his client, with Fenway Sports Group initially only willing to offer him a one-year extension.

However, a compromise has now been reached, with the 32-year-old set to extend his stay at the club he has represented since 2017.

Salah already earns around £400,000 a week at Liverpool, with money not having been an issue in deciding his future.

Liverpool are also looking to tie Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to new deals, with both players also in the final year of their current contracts.

Salah remains a vital player for Liverpool, as evidenced by the fact that he has scored 13 goals and provided eight assists in 14 Premier League games this season.

In total, the Egyptian star scored 226 goals in 370 appearances for Liverpool.

During his time at the club he won the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups.

The news of Salah will be a huge boost for Arne Slot, whose side are currently top of the Premier League.

Last month, Salah had expressed his disappointment at not having been offered a new contract by Liverpool at the time.

Speaking to a small group of reporters after Liverpool's victory over Southampton, Salah said: 'We are almost in December and I have not received any offers to stay at the club yet. I'm probably outside more than inside.

'You know I've been at the club for years. There is no club like this. But ultimately it's out of my hands. Like I said, it's December and I haven't received anything about my future yet.

'I love the fans. The fans love me. Ultimately it is not in my hands, nor in the hands of the fans.'

Asked if he was disappointed with the lack of progress, Salah replied: “Of course, yes. I'm not retiring anytime soon so I'm just playing, focusing on the season and trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League too. I'm disappointed, but we'll see.'
