In mourning, flags lowered at half-mast at Anfield and Liverpool Town Hall

The 28-year-old striker died in a car accident in Portugal, together with his brother, Andre Silva.

The flag in the Liverpool town hall has been lowered to half a mast as a sign of respect, after the death of Liverpool FC Forward Diogo Jota.

Lord Mayor of Liverpool, councilor Barbara Murray, said: “On behalf of the people in Liverpool I want to send my sincere participation to the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva.

“Our thoughts and prayers are also with everyone at Liverpool FC on this extremely sad time.”

Fans of Liverpool collect and lay flowers in Anfield for Diogo Jota and his brother, after they both died in a car accident earlier today.
