Mohamed Salah said he “really lost for words” after the tragic death of Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota.
Jota, 28, died in a car accident next to his brother Andre Silva in Spain in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The couple traveled back to England via ferry when their car suffered a suspected tire bladder while they caught up with another vehicle, causing them to get off the road.
The accident happened only a few days after Portugal International Jota married youth love Rute Cardoso, who is the mother of his three children.
Thousands of tribute have arrived from the football community, with former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo first.
And now Salah, who had been Jota's Liverpool teammate since 2020, posted his own emotional message and confesses that his death has scared him to return for the preview.
“I really get lost for words,” Salah placed on X, who thinks about the death of Jota.
“Until yesterday I never thought there would be something that would scare me to go back to Liverpool after the break.
“Teammates come and go, but not so. It will be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo will not be there when we go back.
“My thoughts are with his wife, his children and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children.
“Those near Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten.”
Salah and Jota played 151 games for Liverpool together and combined for 19 goals.
Jota made 182 performances for the club and scored 65 goals and was part of the team that won the Premier League title of last season and previously won the FA Cup and two competition cups.
