Former Liverpool captain Henderson visits Anfield to pay respects to Diogo Jota

Former Liverpool -captain Jordan Henderson visited Anfield on Friday to express his respect to Diogo Jota, after the tragic death of the Portugal Forward and his brother.

A tearful Henderson put down a bouquet of flowers and a Liverpool scarf under the many tribute that lags behind by supporters.

The 35-year-old, given space by those who are present, then took some time to look at notes that were left behind by mourning people when he became visibly emotional.

Henderson, currently the captain of the Dutch side Ajax, spent 12 years between 2011 and 2023 with Liverpool after leaving the Sunderland boys' club.

The midfielder was a teammate of Jota for three years after the switch from the attacker to the Reds of fellow Premier League -Outfit Wolves in 2020.

Together, under the supervision of head coach Jurgen Klopp, they won both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup with Liverpool in 2022.

Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, died tragically on Thursday morning at a car accident.

The Liverpool attacker was 28 and his brother was 25.

Henderson shared an emotional statement on social media after their death was confirmed.

“I really can't believe what happened today and the only thing I can think of is the family of Diogo and Andre,” he said.

“It is unimaginable the pain that you all have to suffer. All our prayers, love and support are now and forever with you.

“Jotsen, it was a pleasure to share a pitch with you, but more importantly a friendship. All the smile we had from the field and try to find ways to wind Milly (James Milner) and get him a fine, which we could never.
