Conor Gallagher is not for sale, but would be sold at the right price. It is a truth that follows almost all players during the transfer market, but it is somewhat remarkable that the status of the midfielder of the Atletico Madrid has been made public.
Gallagher arrived in the Metropolitano last summer in a deal of € 42 million from Chelsea, but has difficulty left his mark in the Spanish capital. Although he fought for a starting point the entire season, it was in an uncomfortable role to the left of midfield and the 25-year-old started exactly half of their La Liga matches and 40% of their Champions League matches.
Reports in Madrid stated this week that Gallagher is not for sale, but Atletico would consider offers for him if the right thing arrived. Sources have indicated España that this is indeed the case, even if they are not active at the port.
Perhaps, however, it cannot be said for his agent, as Gallagher has been offered to a number of Premier League parties, perhaps looking for a more prominent role for the English international. Aston Villa, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Newcastle United are all contacted about his availability.
However, Atletico Madrid is not going to load Gallagher cheaply, and their message is that they will not discuss a deal for less than € 50 million, a profit about what they have spent. Tottenham and Aston Villa are the parties who have shown some interest in Gallagher, but so far there has been no movement.
Although the outputs of Rodrigo Riquelme and (theoretical) Thomas Lemar reduce the depth of Atletico, the arrivals of Alex Baena and (theoretical) Johnny Cardoso for large money Gallagher on the outside let the start XI. However, it looks difficult for Gallagher to make a movement, because the asking price is higher, after a season in which he has done little to justify an increase in value.
