Ex-Barcelona star fails to hold back tears during minute of silence for Diogo Jota

It was a heartbreaking 48 hours in the football world, after the death of Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota was confirmed. The 28-year-old died in a car accident next to his brother Andre Silva, 26, in a tragic accident in the early hours of Thursday morning.

That was confirmed less than 12 hours after the crash in the Zamora region in Spain, while the couple drove to Santander to take a ferry back to the United Kingdom. A wheel problem ensured that their Lamborghini left the road and they could not escape the flames of the wreck afterwards. Tribute came in from all over the world and became hearts. Both Silva and Jota left three children and women, Jota married only 10 days in advance.

In the meantime, a minute of silence was held at the World Championship of Club before the quarterfinals between Fluminense and Saudi-Arabian side al-Hilal. Jota's international teammates Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves were both involved in the game, but could not stop the tears, in a heartbreaking moment before the game.

After the terrible news was confirmed, Neves posted a message to his friend and teammate Jota, with whom he also coincided at Wolves, on his Instagram page only a few hours before the game. It reads as follows:

“Beast, wherever you are, I know you'll read this. We've never been so stupid and maybe I have been sorry a bit now, but you know what you mean to me as much as I know what I mean for you. More than a friend, we are family, and we will not stop that you are a bit further from us! Usually.
