The defender of Manchester City and England, who spent the second half of last season on loan in AC Milan, underwent a medical on Friday and was set to move to the Premier League New Boys
Burnley closes a deal to sign Manchester City defender Kyle Walker. England International Walker, 35, had a medical with the newly promoted Clarets on Friday prior to a movement that could be worth £ 5 million.
Walker goes into the city in the last year of his contract and although he started as a club captain last season, he finished on loan at AC Milan. He was expected to join the Rossoneri to a permanent deal, but in the midst of large revolution in San Siro, the Serie A side refused to take an option to make his move permanent.
Walker, closed 96 times by England, was then not part of the City team for the FIFA Club World Cup and another step was expected.
Instead, he is now ready for Peat Moor, where he will reunite with Burnley -Baas Scott Parker. Parker was Walker's teammate in Tottenham between 2011 and 2013. The move can be completed during the weekend.
His arrival would give Burnley a much needed experience, which was very lacking when they were last in the Premier League, because the then manager Vincent Kompany focused on signing young players with a high potential. It did not work and they were immediately exiled to the championship – although Kompany was properly poached by Bayern Munich.
Parker picked up the pieces and led the clarets to second place and promotion of the second layer of previous term, with a remarkable average and impressive defense, which admitted only 16 times in 46 league matches.
In eight years at City, Walker won 17 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League as part of their triple success in the 2022/23 campaign.
He is in line to become Burnley's fifth new signing of the summer after Max Weiss, Quilindschy Hartman, Axel Tuanzebe and Loum Tchouana. Loan offers for Bashir Humphreys, Marcus Edwards, Zian Flemming and Jaidon Anthony are also made permanent.
