Barcelona will train again at the end of this week, because the preseason starts for the League champions. Part of the returning group will be goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the captain, and the newest high earner who is circled in red as a potential departure.
The German veteran is supposed to be rather frustrated by the club, after they had activated the release clause from Joan Garcia € 25 million, a movement that is aimed at the sooner or later. While Barcelona leaked that they will not force Ter Stegen, they certainly want to see it happen.
As reported during the weekend, manager Hansi Flick and Ter Stegen will speak about his future on their return to training, in which the 33-year-old makes it clear in public that he is not going to leave the club this summer. Sources have explained to football España that Flick will then pass on the details of this conversation to director of Football Deco. The hope of Barcelona is that the need for regular football to maintain its place, because the number one in Germany will be a sufficient lure of the club.
The same sources have indicated that two Premier League parties are closely monitoring Ter Stegen's situation, namely Manchester United and Chelsea. The first striving for an upgrade to Andre Onana at the request of manager Ruben Amorim, and Ter Stegen is one of their options. If Ter Stegen becomes available for free, as has been suggested in Catalonia, Chelsea will also follow the situation. The blues have an approach for AC Milan veteran Mike Maignan earlier this summer.
A number of other parties also stay aware of Ter Stegen's situation, but nobody seems likely destinations at the time of writing. Saudi-Arabian side Al-Hilal is among them, but it seems unlikely that Ter Sten would be convinced by a move to the Middle East.
